To Whom It May Concern:
Karyn Ruth White has asked me to write a letter concerning
her appearance at CH2M HILL’s annual retreat for its
Board of Directors (Colorado Springs, October 3, 2004). While
she has requested a letter of recommendation, my purpose in
writing is what lawyers call “caveat emptor” (let
the buyers beware).
I talked to our Board members following Karyn’s performance,
and the following summarizes their complaints:
- All of them complained about their stomach muscles hurting
from laughter. This was a symptom which not only occurred
Sunday evening, but continued into the rest of the retreat
as they recalled some of her stories.
- Many of them sent me dry cleaning bills. They said they
had laughed so hard that there were tear stains on their clothes.
- This was a group of engineers and other professionals. They
are still evaluating Karyn’s remarks about “pocket
protectors” and slide rules to see if she was serious
or if they should have laughed.
- It was clear to all of them that Karyn had studied our company,
tailored her remarks to this audience, and found ways to poke
fun at us. This caught them off guard, since they were only
expecting a simple comedy routine.
- Karyn really seemed to enjoy herself, even to the point
of incorporating funny stories from our people into her routine.
Our people wanted to know how she did this so quickly –
then they wanted to know if we got a discount on her fee since
we provided some of the material.
Most importantly, people asked me when we could have her return.
This is a skeptical group. They simply did not believe she
could be this good, this funny, so entertaining, and make
a Sunday evening session so enjoyable, in the midst of an
intense Board retreat. They want to see her again to prove
to themselves that she was the best entertainment we have
ever had!
I wish I could be more helpful, if you are contemplating Karyn
Ruth White as a speaker. You are welcome to contact me by
phone at 720.286.2411 or by email at dmiller1@ch2m.com, if
you want more details.
Sincerely,
CH2M HILL
